FM-PAC repair

My FMPAC have not been not worked on my PV-16 well. In such a case, capacitor causes error sometimes.

I have tryed to replace capacitors on my FMPAC(Panasoft version).

Check parts

I found FMPAC electric circuit this cite and checked parts first.

FMPAC SW-M004 回路図 | 電子機器 Junker – teacup.ブログ“AutoPage”

List of electrolytic capacitors in FMPAC(Pana)
10uF16V * 4
47uF16V * 2
1uF50V * 1
1uF50V(non-polarized) * 1 1000uF6.3V * 2

C17 is non-polarized and I changed ceramic one from electrolytic.

I leaved Battery removed because I don’t use FMPAC as PAC to save data for a while.
I inserted FMPAC into KB-7(dock), not PV-16(main unit) and works well with 64k extend ram cartridge.

My opinion towards retro hobby computers

I want to enjoy playing HOBBY COMPUTING!

Remember 80’s… There were many hobby computers.

There are not so many joyful computers nowadays.
Almost of all computers are compelling graphics or
processing speed for business use…

Are you enjoying with such computers?

I think, we have the rights to enjoy computers.

We, fans of retro computers do as fun of vintage cars.

They don’t complain about speed(slow) or designs that is
not so smart(old school) but love such a elements that
have already vanished.

Only one thing that is same between old days and now is
“both of them can reach where you want to go”.

I just enjoy old hobby computer.

How to get SCC cartridge

How to get SCC cartidge

SCC has very remarkable and MSX original sound.

If you have no SCC cartridges, I recommend you to have one.

It’s not easy to get but not so difficult. Let’s see how to get SCC cartridges.

Snatcher/SD Snacher

Official SCC sound cartridges are only these two products.

These two cartridges are bundled with “Snatcher” or “SD Snatcher” but

both of them are extremely RARE. Search in auctions or second hand game shops…

Modification of ordinary game game cartridges with SCC

Cut circuit pattern or insert switch to game program roms on ordinary game cartridges with SCC. When you use it as SCC sound cartridge, turn off the switch avoiding start the game.

** Caution**:

Modify your Konami games which has SCC and embedd extra SCC roms on ordinary game cartridges with SCC.

OneChip MSX build SCC cirbuit on FPGA and can use SCC sounds by changing DIP switch.

Build-in SCC / Compatible SCC cartriges

Some new compatible SCC cartridges are relesed by MSX fan’s orojects and some new models are relesed with build-in SCC as well, after Panasonic withdrew from MSX market.

*Now reserching

SCC clone chips

This article explains how to build SCC compatible chip with LPC810. This chip is controlled by I2C connection, so we cannot use MSX still now though…

**Emulators which supprts SCC are separately discribed in this blogs.

MSX for DIY hobbyist

The weakest MSX ever, Casio PV-7 & Expansion unit KB-7.

PV-7 has 8k byte main RAM. Konami’s early titles ran on this weakest platform. It’s unbelievable nowadays.

PV-7 in this picture is docked on KB-7 expantion unit, and has 3 cartridge slots. Extend 16k RAMs are also embedded in KB-7.

PCB is so simple that you can trace electric circuit. You can find this is literally the simplest MSX, if you read PCB reffering to MSX document.

If you find this PV-7 or PV-16 (updated version of PV-7) I recommend to get one.

It’s very ideal design for MSX DIY hobbyist.
